The Executive Committee of the Council of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon strongly condemned the insults, defamation, and abuse directed at its president, the Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi, through media outlets and social media platforms.
In a statement, the committee firmly rejected any offense against religious and national figures, stressing that freedom of expression must not be used as a tool for insult, incitement, or undermining civil peace. It called on the competent judicial authorities to take the necessary measures against anyone proven to be involved.
The committee also urged all Lebanese citizens to act responsibly and respect religious leadership and symbols, in order to preserve social unity and safeguard the dignity of the nation.
