The Progressive Socialist Party announced in a statement that its former leader Walid Jumblatt conducted intensive regional contacts in a bid to halt the bloodshed in Syria’s Ashrafiyat Sahnaya.
Jumblatt’s efforts included outreach to the new Syrian leadership, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Jordan, urging all parties to work toward an immediate ceasefire.
According to the statement, these efforts culminated in an agreement to cease hostilities, which officially went into effect 30 minutes prior to the announcement.
Jumblatt emphasized the importance of resolving the crisis based on the principles of state authority and Syrian national unity, inclusive of all its components.
He also called for strict adherence to the ceasefire, noting that a delegation from Jabal al-Arab is expected to arrive shortly. The delegation will include Sheikhs al-Aql Hammoud al-Hannawi and Youssef Jarbo’, the leader of the Rijal al-Karama movement Sheikh Yahya al-Hajjar, Prince Hassan al-Atrash, as well as other Druze religious and community figures.
The visit aims to finalize a framework that would prevent renewed internal conflict, which the statement warned would only serve the interests of the Israeli enemy.
