Aoun Calls for Action on Monitoring Committee and Pressure on Israel
President Joseph Aoun, in the presence of US Ambassador Lisa Johnson, received the head of the Monitoring Committee for the Cessation of Hostilities, US General Jasper Jeffers, who introduced his successor, General Michael J. Leeney, the new head of the Committee.
Aoun stressed the need to activate the Committee’s work and to continue pressuring Israel to halt its aggressions, withdraw from the five occupied hills, and return the Lebanese detainees. He also affirmed that the Lebanese Army is fully carrying out its duties in the south, particularly in the area south of the Litani River, where it continues operations to seize weapons and ammunition and remove armed presence.
