Salam, World Bank discuss aligning projects with Government priorities

  • Mon August 10 2026 4:26 pm

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received World Bank Regional Director for the Middle East Dalia Khalifa, accompanied by World Bank Group Country Manager for Lebanon Enrique Blanco Armas, who came on an acquaintance visit marking her assumption of her new duties

During the meeting, discussions focused on ways to align the World Bank’s current and future project portfolio with the government’s priorities across various sectors, particularly in energy, water, and social protection.

The discussions also addressed the World Bank’s role in the reconstruction of areas affected by the war, including damage assessments, infrastructure rehabilitation, and coordinating donor efforts.

Premier Salam stressed the urgent need to expedite these measures, in parallel with the government’s efforts in southern Lebanon, in a manner that supports the resilience and return of residents of the south, and is in line with the government’s priorities in this regard.

The meeting also touched on Lebanon’s strategic goal of strengthening regional integration, particularly by facilitating trade, promoting regional energy connectivity, and developing transport corridors and digital infrastructure, thereby enhancing Lebanon’s role as a regional hub for connectivity and economic exchange.

Khalifeh affirmed the World Bank’s readiness to support this approach through studies, investment programs, and the required reforms.
