President of the Republic Joseph Aoun continued his meetings with institutions and organizations that follow up on the conditions of the displaced from villages and towns subjected to ongoing Israeli attacks.
After his meeting this morning with Minister of Social Affairs, Haneen Al-Sayed, and the Secretary-General of the Lebanese Red Cross, George Kattanah, President Aoun met this afternoon with the Head of the South Lebanon Council, Hashem Haidar, Vice President Rasha Abu Ghazaleh, Council Member Youssef Doughan, and Financial Auditor Yasser Zebian.
Haidar briefed President Aoun on the efforts being made by the South Lebanon Council to assist the displaced and meet their needs, both inside and outside the shelters, in addition to delivering urgent aid and fuel to the residents still remaining in their villages.
President Aoun asked the South Lebanon Council to continue addressing the conditions of the displaced and to coordinate with the relevant ministries concerned with relief and the Disaster Management Authority to ensure wide coverage for aid to the displaced.
On another note, President Aoun made a phone call to King Abdullah II bin Hussein of Jordan, with whom he discussed the latest developments regarding the security situation in Lebanon and the region.
During the call, President Aoun thanked the Jordanian monarch for the humanitarian aid sent under the king's directives, through the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization, in cooperation with the Jordanian Armed Forces. The aid convoy arrived in Lebanon today consisting of 25 trucks loaded with food, relief supplies, and medicines.
President Aoun said that this humanitarian initiative reflects the depth of the relationship between the Lebanese and Jordanian brotherly peoples, especially since Jordan has always stood by Lebanon and its people in various circumstances.
President Aoun also received a phone call from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, with whom he discussed the rapidly evolving developments due to the ongoing Israeli escalation against Lebanon.
Von der Leyen informed President Aoun about the dispatch of a second batch of urgent humanitarian aid from the European Union to Lebanon, following the first batch that arrived yesterday.
The President of the Republic thanked the European official for the political and humanitarian support that the European Commission is providing to Lebanon during this critical period in its history.
