Aoun holds series of meetings
President of the Republic Joseph Aoun held a series of meetings focusing on security developments and relief efforts.
Canadian Ambassador, Gregory Galligan, told Aoun that Canada is closely monitoring developments in Lebanon and the efforts he is making to address the situation and curb escalation, reaffirming Ottawa’s continued support for the Lebanese Army.
Aoun also received Lebanese Red Cross Secretary-General, Georges Kettaneh, who confirmed the organization’s readiness to respond to the latest security developments. Kettaneh said the Lebanese Red Cross has around 12,000 volunteers across the country, including 5,000 paramedics equipped with ambulances and medical equipment. He added that the organization provides relief aid, shelter support, primary healthcare and psychological assistance, as well as blood units to hospitals and patients.
The president praised the sacrifices of the Lebanese Red Cross and offered condolences to Kettaneh over the killing of paramedic Youssef Assaf during shelling on the town of Majdal Zoun.
Aoun also received State Security Director-General Major General Edgar Lawandos, who briefed him on the agency’s work across Lebanon, particularly in combating corruption and supporting relevant authorities in tackling hoarding and monitoring price hikes of food and essential goods.
