President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received a phone call this evening from Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who expressed his country's support for Lebanon during these difficult times. President Petro emphasized the solidarity of the Colombian people with the friendly Lebanese people, hoping for a swift end to their suffering and affirming Colombia's readiness to assist Lebanon during this critical period in its history.
President Aoun, in turn, thanked his Colombian counterpart for his affection, hailing the friendly relations that unite the two countries, especially with the presence of many Lebanese in Colombia.
It is worth noting that Lebanese and Colombians of Lebanese descent are among the largest Lebanese diaspora communities in Latin America after Brazil and Mexico. The community includes prominent figures in parliament and government, and is considered among the most influential Arab communities in the country’s economic and political life.
