Salam chairs meeting at Grand Serail

  • Sat March 7 2026 5:44 pm

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam chaired a meeting at the Grand Serail attended by Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar, alongside several cabinet ministers and regional governors, to review regional needs and coordinate the government's response to the current waves of displacement and speedily address challenges.

In an issued statement, the government emphasized that no individual or family will be left without shelter, with efforts underway to provide adequate accommodation for all displaced people. Minister of Education & Higher Education, Rima Karami, placed schools at the disposal of governors to be used as temporary shelters, noting that in some areas the number of opened centers currently exceeds the immediate need.

In Beirut, the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium will be prepared to receive displaced families starting this afternoon. Shelters in northern Lebanon are fully ready, and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport will organize transportation from Beirut to the North to facilitate relocation.

Conferees emphasized the need to counter rumors and prevent tensions between host communities and displaced people.

At the health level, the Public Health Ministry confirmed its coverage of medical care for all displaced persons.

For their part, governors briefed PM Salam on the situation in their regions, and it was agreed to secure the essential supplies for the displaced, including fuel.

Both the Interior Minister and Internal Security Forces Director-General presented the security measures for guiding displaced persons, providing protection for shelters, and preventing violations.

Salam stressed the need for close coordination between the Higher Relief Committee, governors, the Disaster Management Unit, and relevant ministries to rapidly meet humanitarian needs, reiterating the government’s commitment to providing shelter for all displaced people, and stressing that no one would be left without shelter.
