Cold weather… Beware of frost and ice!

  • Sat March 7 2026 11:44 am

The Forecasting Department at the Meteorological Service of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation predicts that tomorrow’s weather will be generally clear, with cold conditions, especially in inland and mountainous areas during the early morning and at night. There is a warning for the risk of ice formation on high-altitude roads and slippery conditions on internal and mountain roads above 1100 meters.

Summary of the bulletin:

General situation: A fast-moving low-pressure system centered over the Black Sea, accompanied by cold air masses, is affecting Lebanon and the eastern Mediterranean basin. This will lead to unstable weather with occasional local rain and a drop in temperatures. The system will gradually recede at night, leaving a frost wave due to cold northerly winds, lasting until mid-next week.

Warning: Risk of slips due to ice formation on mountain and internal roads above 1100 meters during early morning and night starting Sunday dawn.
Note: Average March temperatures: Beirut 17–19°C, Tripoli 10–12°C, Zahle 1–16°C.

Expected weather in Lebanon:

Saturday: Partly to occasionally mostly cloudy with lower temperatures. Fog will form on highlands, with local rain sometimes heavy, especially in northern Lebanon, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and active winds. Snow will fall above 1400 meters. Rain and snow will subside at night, with ice forming on mountain and internal roads above 1100 meters.

Sunday: Generally clear with cold weather, especially inland and in mountainous areas during early morning and at night. Risk of ice and slippery conditions on roads above 1100 meters.

Monday: Clear to slightly cloudy with a slight rise in daytime temperatures, while mornings and nights remain cold, especially inland and in the mountains, with low humidity.

Tuesday: Clear to slightly cloudy with further temperature rise, still below seasonal averages. Cold in the early morning and at night, particularly inland and in mountainous areas.

Temperatures:

Coast: 7–18°C
Mountains: 10–11°C
Inland: 1–11°C

Surface winds: Southwest to northwest, active at night, 15–50 km/h
Visibility: Moderate, worsening in highlands due to fog
Relative humidity on the coast: 60–80%
Sea state: Rough. Sea surface temperature: 18°C
Atmospheric pressure: 1019 hPa (764 mmHg)
Sunrise: 06:01 | Sunset: 17:38
