President of the Republic Joseph Aoun received Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal and was briefed by him on the results of the talks he held during his visits to Turkey and the United Kingdom, within the framework of military cooperation between the two countries.
President Aoun and General Haykal discussed the security situation in the country and the Army’s upcoming missions in light of the outcomes of the Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations and the resulting “framework agreement” to end the war on Lebanon.
In this context, the President commended the role played by the Army, its leadership, officers, and personnel, in asserting the state’s authority, maintaining security and stability in the country, securing the borders, and protecting civil peace. He emphasized that the campaigns of skepticism and slander to which the military institution and its leadership are occasionally subjected will not affect its patriotic performance in accordance with the decisions of the political authority, nor the confidence that officials and the Lebanese people have in it.
