President Aoun meets IFRC delegation, urges action on Lebanese detainees
President Joseph Aoun emphasized before a delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies delegation, the necessity of pressuring Israel to respect international laws and agreements, and to stop targeting civilians, paramedics, emergency responders, civil defense personnel, and humanitarian, medical and relief bodies.
President Aoun said: Israeli violations in the south are ongoing despite the annoucement of a ceasefire, including the demolition and bulldozing of homes and places of worship, while the number of casualties and wounded continue to rise day after day, adding that ‘’the attacks do not spare emergency responders and volunteers, with around 17 paramedics from the Lebanese Red Cross and other humanitarian bodies having been killed so far, in addition to the targeting of journalists.
The President stressed that what volunteers are doing to rescue the injured represents the pinnacle of sacrifice and selflessness in service of the humanitarian mission they believe in, even to the point of martyrdom, despite the fact that rescue missions they carry out are reported in advance to ensure the necessary protection.
Aoun renewed the call to assist Lebanon in determining the fate of Lebanese prisoners in Israeli jails, as Israel has so far refused to allow the International Committee of the Red Cross to contact them, check on their health, and reassure their families and the Lebanese state.
