Lebanon has been elected to lead the General Assembly of the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO), with Brigadier General Imad Khreish representing the country, for the 2026–2028 term. Lebanon was also elected to the organisation’s Executive Council for the 2026–2030 term.

The elections took place during the ICDO’s 27th General Assembly, held in Geneva on October 29, 2026, marking a significant achievement for Lebanon on the international stage.

The appointments reflect the international community’s confidence in Lebanon and its Civil Defence expertise, while strengthening the country’s role in shaping international policies and advancing cooperation in civil protection, disaster management and emergency response.

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the ICDO was established in 1931 and became an intergovernmental organisation under its constitution on March 1, 1972. Its mission is to promote international cooperation in protecting populations and responding to disasters and emergencies. It currently has 61 member states.

Lebanon joined the organisation on March 1, 1972, contributing to international efforts to strengthen civil protection and civil defence capabilities through the exchange of expertise, training and cooperation in disaster response, with the aim of safeguarding lives, property and the environment.
