Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received former minister Wadih Khazen at the Second Presidency headquarters in Ain El-Tineh, where discussions focused on political and security developments in Lebanon and the region, as well as national affairs.
Speaking after the meeting, Khazen stressed the need for a responsible national approach to regional developments, warning against allowing external conflicts to undermine Lebanon’s stability and internal cohesion.
He praised Berri’s role in maintaining dialogue among Lebanese political factions and bridging differences, describing his efforts as essential to preserving national unity and civil peace.
Khazen called for intensified political and diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation, protect Lebanon’s sovereignty and ensure that the country does not become an arena for regional rivalries.
Addressing Israel’s elections, he welcomed the participation of Arab citizens, expressing hope that political developments could help curb hardline policies and encourage a shift toward peaceful solutions and lasting regional stability.
Khazen also highlighted Lebanon’s worsening economic and social conditions, urging practical measures to ease citizens’ financial burdens, protect vulnerable communities and restore confidence in state institutions.
He emphasized the importance of international efforts to halt Israeli attacks, secure withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory, facilitate the return of displaced residents and launch reconstruction.
Khazen further called for strengthening the Lebanese Army and legitimate state institutions, stressing that decisions concerning war and peace should be based on national consensus.
He concluded by reaffirming his support for Berri’s efforts to promote dialogue and cooperation, urging Lebanese leaders to prioritize national interests, economic recovery, social stability and peaceful coexistence over political divisions.
