The closure of the Nassib border crossing with Jordan and the suspension of passenger and commercial truck traffic in both directions have affected Lebanese agricultural exports due to security developments in Syria’s Daraa province. Airstrikes in the area reportedly killed seven people and injured three, according to the province’s health director.
In this context, Ibrahim Tarchichi, head of the Bekaa Farmers’ Association, said that around 50 trucks carrying approximately 1,500 tons of agricultural produce bound for Jordan and other countries had become stranded. He added that Lebanese shipments were also stranded inside Syria, both those heading to Lebanon and those bound for Jordan.
Tarchichi called on the relevant authorities to follow up on the matter and facilitate the passage of Lebanese trucks to restore the movement of goods into and out of Lebanon.
