President Aoun: We must support families’ resilience and create a sustainable economic cycle
President Joseph Aoun was briefed by a delegation from World Central Kitchen, headed by Javier Garcia, on the organization’s activities in Lebanon and its programs to support the most vulnerable communities and displaced people, particularly in the south and Bekaa.
The delegation explained that the organization had expanded its presence in Lebanon over the past three years and stepped up its efforts since October 2023. It has helped provide around 22 million hot meals through nine kitchens in the south and Bekaa, in cooperation with local associations, organizations, municipalities and restaurants. It has also provided meals at collective shelters during periods of displacement.
President Aoun stressed the importance of ensuring that humanitarian work is accompanied by support for the local economy, particularly the agricultural sector, farmers, producers and small businesses. Wherever possible, he said, aid should also serve as an opportunity to strengthen the resilience of families and communities and generate a sustainable local economic cycle.
