Jaber marks 48th anniversary of Imam Musa Al-Sadr’s disappearance

Finance Minister Yassine Jaber marked the 48th anniversary of the disappearance of Imam Musa Al-Sadr, describing him as an exceptional national figure whose absence went far beyond that of an individual.

Jaber said Al-Sadr had carried Lebanon in his heart and believed that the country, with all its communities and citizens, deserved a just state capable of protecting it, safeguarding the dignity of its people and delivering the social justice that remains lacking.

He described Al-Sadr as the imam of the nation, saying he had worked for Lebanon to be a final homeland for all its people rather than an arena for conflicts and divisions.

Jaber said Al-Sadr believed Lebanon’s strength lay in its unity, that protecting the south was a fundamental national responsibility, and that a just state represented the true safeguard of people, the nation and sovereignty.

Today, 48 years later, his thought remains a deeply rooted message despite his absence, Jaber said, adding that Al-Sadr’s words and positions continued to bear witness to a national project that time had not erased.

He said the need for that vision had only grown as crises intensified and national considerations were increasingly overshadowed by division.

Jaber added that Al-Sadr was remembered not simply as a man who disappeared, but as the voice of the Lebanon he envisioned — a country in which no Lebanese prevailed over another, the south was not treated as a margin and human beings were not reduced to numbers.

He concluded by paying tribute to the imam of the nation, to a cause that time had not erased, and to the continuing hope for Al-Sadr’s return to his homeland and people, as well as Lebanon’s return to the vision he carried.
