Raggi visits Sovereign Order of Malta in Rome, commends its humanitarian role
Minister of Foreign Affairs Youssef Raggi visited the Sovereign Order of Malta at its headquarters in Rome, where he met with the Grand Chancellor, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, in the presence of the Order of Malta’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Maria Cortezi, and Lebanon’s Ambassador to the Vatican, Dr. Fadi Assaf.
The discussion reportedly touched on the close ties between Lebanon and the Order, and ways to strengthen the ongoing cooperation between the two sides, particularly in humanitarian and social fields.
Minister Raggi praised the role of the Order 'in promoting the culture of peace and reinforcing the values of human solidarity,' commending 'the projects and services it implements across various Lebanese regions, and the support it provides to the most vulnerable groups.
Raggi presented a comprehensive overview of the difficult humanitarian situation in Lebanon, stressing the importance of continuing support for the southern regions, including the Christian villages, in order to strengthen the resilience of local communities and preserve the diversity that forms one of the fundamental pillars of Lebanon’s message of coexistence and pluralism.
For his part, Grand Chancellor di Montecupo reaffirmed the Order of Malta’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian and development programs in Lebanon, and expressed the Order’s readiness to increase assistance to displaced persons and southern border villages in light of the current difficult circumstances.
