The discussion reportedly touched on the general situation and the latest political and field developments in light of Israel’s continued aggression against Lebanon and its repercussions on farmers and the agricultural sector.
Minister Hani briefed Speaker Berri on the extent of the damage and losses inflicted on the agricultural sector and forested areas due to the ongoing Israeli aggression and its repercussions on the Lebanese economy, with the affected areas reaching approximately 22.5 percent, equivalent to 56,264 hectares, including damage to olive groves, fruit trees, tobacco cultivation, citrus and banana orchards, and protected crops.
Speaker Berri also met with the head of the Finance and Budget Parliamentary Committee, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, with whom he discussed the general situation and legislative affairs.
Berri later received in Ain el-Tineh a delegation from the National Moderation bloc, which included MPs Mohammed Suleiman, Ahmad Al-Khair and Abdul Aziz Al-Samad, in the presence of the bloc’s secretary, former MP Hadi Hobeish, and MP Ali Hassan Khalil, member of Development and Liberation parliamentary bloc.
The meeting addressed the latest political and field developments in light of Israel’s continued aggression against Lebanon, as well as the displacement dossier, and legislative affairs, particularly the general amnesty draft law.
After the meeting, MP Abdul Aziz Al-Samad said: 'Today, as the National Moderation Bloc, we had the honor of visiting Speaker Nabih Berri. We discussed several national dossiers that concern the Lebanese people, foremost among them the need to approve the General Amnesty Law, given the humanitarian and national dimensions of this issue, which require it to be addressed in a fair and comprehensive manner.' MP Abdul Aziz Al-Samad added: In this regard, His Excellency emphasized the call for a joint committee session, which would help ease tensions and ensure that people receive their rights within the framework of law and justice.
The MP continued: We also reaffirmed our utter rejection of the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty, and stressed the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in protecting Lebanon. We also confirmed our full commitment to the Taif Agreement and the necessity of its full implementation, as it represents the sole guarantee for the Lebanese state, the proper functioning of its institutions, and the strengthening of national stability and coexistence among Lebanese citizens. Furthermore, we underscored the importance of cooperation among different political forces to address the crises facing the country, away from political spite, and to place the interests of the Lebanese people above all else.
