Media Coordinator of the Change Movement Party Samia Khaddaj, strongly condemned the threats and cyberattacks targeting MTV, including an attack on its website and threats directed at several of its staff members. These actions came in response to baseless and absurd claims accusing the channel, through its news reports, of providing the Israeli army with coordinates to strike areas in Dahiyeh.
Such serious accusations, unsupported by any evidence, represent an unacceptable attempt to brand media institutions as traitors and to intimidate journalists and media workers. They also constitute a direct attack on press freedom and the public’s right to access information.
We also firmly reject and condemn the cyberattack that targeted the channel’s website, for which a group known as the “Fatimiyoun” cyber team has claimed responsibility. This act is a clear violation against media institutions and an attempt to silence or pressure them.
The Change Movement Party affirms its solidarity with MTV and all its staff, stressing its rejection of any attack or threat targeting any media outlet in Lebanon. Media freedom remains a fundamental pillar of a democratic state and cannot be undermined under any pretext.
We call on the relevant authorities to take the necessary measures to protect media institutions and their employees, and to hold accountable anyone proven to be involved in threats or incitement.
