Prime Minister Nawaf Salam chaired a meeting at the Grand Serail, attended by the Chairman of the Council for Development and Reconstruction Mohammad Ali Qabbani, Governor of Beirut, Judge Marwan Abboud, General Manager of Solidere Ziad Abou Jamra, General Manager of MTV Habib Gabriel, in addition to a number of MTV officials and stakeholders from the Council for Development and Reconstruction, Solidere, and Beirut Municipality.
Following the meeting, Judge Abboud said, We briefed the Prime Minister on the ongoing work to rehabilitate Nejmeh Square and Martyrs' Square, as part of a comprehensive project to relaunch downtown Beirut and revitalize its infrastructure. This step aims to restore the capital's 1960s splendor and its bright urban and cultural rennaisance period.
Abboud added: We also presented the already-accomplished phases of the project and the future work scheduled to be implemented soon, especially in Martyrs' Square, to restore the pulse to the capital. It was also agreed between the Beirut Municipality, Solidere, and the Council for Development and Reconstruction to remove all administrative obstacles, paving the way for a rapid start of the project, with work to be completed within a short period of time. The project will serve as a declaration of Beirut's return.
Premier Salam also received the Public Service Committee in Lebanon, formed by the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, which includes: Judge Fawzi Khamis, Brigadier General Fadi Saliba, Engineer Danny Gedoun, and Talal Al Maqdisi.
The delegation raised with the Premier relevant demands.
Salam then met with former Minister Mohammad Choucair, with with whom he discussed the current general situation.
