Salam pledges swift return and reconstruction efforts

  • Fri February 28 2025 12:08 pm

On the sidelines of his visit to Benoît Barakat Barracks, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with a delegation of residents from the border southern Lebanese town of Dhayra, who had staged a protest outside the barracks to denounce Israeli actions preventing their return to their homes.

Addressing the delegation, Salam emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring their safe and dignified return.

“This is the first real working day for the government. All due respect and tribute to the Lebanese Army and its martyrs. The government will implement what was outlined in the ministerial statement, and I promise you a swift and safe return to your homes. We are fully committed to the reconstruction process so that residents can return with dignity. This is not just a promise—it is a personal and governmental commitment,” Salam said.

The Prime Minister further underscored that the government seeks to earn the trust of the people through actions, not just words. He highlighted ongoing efforts to mobilize Arab and international support to pressure Israel into withdrawing from Lebanese territories, particularly from the so-called five disputed points, asserting that there can be no real and lasting stability without a full Israeli withdrawal.

Salam concluded by expressing hope for an imminent reunion in the border villages, reaffirming the government’s determination to secure the residents’ rights and ensure their safe return.
