Prime Minister Nawaf Salam underscored the Lebanese Army’s pivotal role in safeguarding national security and sovereignty, pledging increased government support to bolster its operational capabilities.
The PM’s remarks came during a visit to Benoît Barakat Barracks in Tyre, where he addressed military personnel and UNIFIL forces.
In a statement shared on X platform, Salam lauded the army’s dedication, describing it as “the backbone of Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence” and commending its honor, sacrifice, and loyalty.
The PM further emphasized that the Lebanese armed forces bear the responsibility of defending Lebanon, ensuring security, protecting citizens, and preserving the country’s territorial integrity.
“The Lebanese Army is fully carrying out its duties, reinforcing its deployment with determination and resolve to uphold stability in the south and ensure the safe return of our people to their villages and homes,” Salam asserted. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding the army’s manpower, upgrading its equipment and training, and improving service conditions to enhance its defensive capabilities.
The Prime Minister also extended his appreciation to UNIFIL, recognizing its role as a peacekeeping force that has supported Lebanon since 1978. He praised its close cooperation with the Lebanese Army in implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, aimed at maintaining security in southern Lebanon.
Furthermore, Salam strongly condemned any attacks on UNIFIL, vowing that those responsible would be held accountable. “We reject any assault on UNIFIL and will take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents from recurring,” Salam declared.
