Beirut's Metropolitan Elias Audi welcomed Lebanon's Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi, at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in Beirut.
Following their meeting, Mawlawi expressed his holiday greetings to Metropolitan Audi and the people of Beirut, emphasizing the significance of the visit during the New Year's festivities.
Moreover, Mawlawi acknowledged the concerns raised by the Metropolitan, including the presidential vacuum, the weakening of the state, and the failure to meet citizens' basic needs.
Mawlawi went on to reaffirm the urgent need for the election of a strong, sovereign president who can ensure the country’s stability and continued existence. He also reassured Audi regarding Lebanon's security situation, highlighting the decline in criminal activity and the heightened readiness of security forces, particularly for New Year's Eve.
On the upcoming presidential election session, Mawlawi expressed optimism, urging lawmakers to work towards electing a president who is both constitutional and capable of uniting the Lebanese people.
Regarding relations with Syria’s new administration, Mawlawi reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to applying Lebanese law, particularly in handling the Syrian presence in the country.
The Interior Minister finally denied any interference from Hezbollah in security matters, emphasizing the security forces’ strict adherence to the law.
