President Joseph Aoun welcomed the decision by European Union foreign ministers to establish a new support mission in Lebanon, which will provide advice and assistance to the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces for three years.
President Aoun said: Lebanon praises the European Union’s decision to establish a new mission to support Lebanon’s security and military institutions. This decision reflects Europe’s steadfast commitment to Lebanon’s security and stability, as well as its confidence in the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces as the legitimate bodies entrusted with protecting the homeland and its citizens, alongside the other legitimate security forces.
Through the expertise, training and advice it provides, this mission will help strengthen the capabilities of our legitimate institutions, extend the state’s authority over all its territory and secure its borders, in line with the Lebanese government’s decisions and official position on restricting arms to legitimate forces.
While thanking the European Union and its member states for this step, we affirm that Lebanon will provide all the necessary cooperation to ensure the mission’s success. This support represents an additional pillar in efforts to consolidate stability and strengthen the role of legitimate institutions, a goal for which we count on the continued partnership of Lebanon’s friends.
