Elias Khoury, a member of the Strong Republic parliamentary bloc, warned that Tripoli is on the edgde of an environmental and humanitarian catastrophe.
Based on the outcome of our meeting at Dar al-Fatwa in Tripoli on Saturday, and ahead of our scheduled visit tomorrow to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, we are issuing a final warning: Tripoli is on the brink of an environmental and humanitarian catastrophe, and time is no longer measured in weeks. Only a few days remain before the city faces imminent danger, Khoury said.
In a statement, he stressed that the only option left is an urgent solution to address the crisis at the current landfill and prepare the necessary site before the rains arrive.
Saving Tripoli is not a favor granted by anyone, but a national and moral duty for which the government bears full responsibility. A city exhausted by deprivation must not be left to drown in its own waste, he added.
