Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Youssef Raggi received in his office, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Lebanon, Iyad Al-Hazzaa, who conveyed to him a message from Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Asaad Al-Shaibani.
The meeting addressed the latest developments in Lebanon and the region. Al-Hazzaa explained that the military build-up along the border with Lebanon is merely a measure aimed at strengthening border control, curbing smuggling operations, and safeguarding Syria's internal security, similar to the measures adopted along the Syrian-Iraqi border.
For his part, Minister Raggi stressed the importance of preserving the new chapter being opened in relations between the two countries, based on the principles of respecting each state's sovereignty and non-interference in its internal affairs, praising the official Syrian position in this regard.
Raggi also emphasized the need to move forward in addressing the outstanding dossiers between Lebanon and Syria, foremost among them the file of Lebanese missing in Syrian territory, the demarcation of the shared border, the Syrian displacement crisis, as well as the issue of Syrian detainees in Lebanese prisons.
