Minister of Labor Mohammad Haidar held a meeting at the ministry with a delegation from the Federations and Unions of the Land Transport Sector, headed by Bassam Tlais.
The meeting, also attended by the Director General of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Dr. Mohammad Karaki, focused on improving the situation of public drivers in Lebanon.
Haidar said discussions included pending issues with the NSSF, fuel pricing policies, and a resolution to the current shortage of public driving licenses. Following coordination with the Minister of Interior, it was agreed to accept an alternative temporary document in place of the official license booklet, with official communication issued to the NSSF.
The talks also addressed non-Lebanese drivers, with Haidar emphasizing collaboration between the ministry and unions to encourage and train Lebanese drivers. Future follow-up meetings were agreed upon.
Tlais confirmed that public drivers abide by the law and called for better sector regulation. He urged Lebanese drivers to come forward, noting that NSSF benefits have significantly improved.
Later, Minister Haidar met with delegations from private hospitals, travel agencies, tourism establishments, and restaurant owners to discuss sector challenges and coordination with the NSSF.
