Public Works Minister inspects Beirut Airport operations, highlights continued cooperation
Caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transportation Ali Hamieh conducted a visit to Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport to assess operations following the resumption of flights by various airlines.
This follows the approval granted on November 27, allowing airlines to resume their services in time for the holiday season.
During his visit, Hamieh met with senior officials, including the Director General of Civil Aviation, Fadi Hassan, and other key airport authorities.
In a press conference, Hamieh emphasized the cooperation between the airport's key components—civil aviation, airport security, and Middle East Airlines (MEA)—in ensuring smooth operations. Moreover, Hamieh highlighted ongoing efforts to improve airport services, including the resumption of fast-track services and check-in processes. Additionally, the Minister discussed the resumption of flights between Lebanon and Iraq, particularly for displaced Lebanese due to Israeli aggression. He confirmed that 42 flights between Beirut and Iraq would operate, serving around 5,600 passengers.
On the topic of security and potential delays, Hamieh reassured that all airlines are subject to the same regulatory procedures, noting that logistical delays may occur but are not specific to any airline. He also addressed concerns about Israeli airstrikes, affirming that the Lebanese government is committed to protecting the country’s public facilities.
