MP Alain Aoun: Negotiations key to consolidating ceasefire and restoring sovereignty
MP Alain Aoun said Lebanon is at a pivotal stage and has begun to see part of what it hoped to achieve through the ceasefire, despite it remaining under test and yet to fully extend across all Lebanese territory.
Following a meeting with President Joseph Aoun, the MP said the progress achieved was the result of efforts by Lebanese state institutions, backed by international and regional support and the assistance of Lebanon’s allies.
He stressed that the next phase requires continued negotiations, arguing that a durable ceasefire would pave the way for achieving Lebanon’s key objectives, including full sovereignty, Israeli withdrawal, the return of stability to the South and a definitive end to the conflict between Lebanon and Israel.
Aoun added that all Lebanese share responsibility for this stage and called for unity behind the country’s constitutional institutions, particularly the presidency, government and parliament.
