Warning to Lebanese: Don’t Scan QR Codes
The Lebanese Army Command – Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:
“In light of the Israeli attacks on various Lebanese regions, an Israeli aircraft dropped paper leaflets over the city of Beirut containing QR codes linking to a WhatsApp account and a Facebook page used to contact the Human Intelligence Unit ‘Unit 504’ of the Israeli army, which is responsible for recruiting agents.
The Army Command has warned citizens of the danger of scanning these codes or accessing these links, as doing so carries legal liability and poses a security risk, in addition to potentially enabling the hacking of mobile phones and access to personal data.”
