Rasamny: Strict security measures at Beirut Airport, plans underway for second airport

  • Mon March 3 2025 4:12 pm

Minister of Public Works Fayez Rasamny stated in a brief interview that authorities were implementing stringent measures to secure Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport and the country’s ports. He also revealed that the government is considering the establishment of a second airport in Lebanon.

“There is a governmental plan to build a second airport in Lebanon,” Rasamny confirmed in reference to Qlayaat, emphasizing that the project is being developed in coordination with the Lebanese Presidency and the Prime Minister’s Office.

Rasamny further noted that relevant authorities have already begun conducting feasibility studies for its implementation.

Regarding security at Beirut’s airport, Rasamny stressed that safeguarding this vital facility remains a top government priority.

“The government has implemented all necessary security measures for the airport and its passengers—these measures are extremely strict,” Rasamny stated.

The Public Works Minister also revealed that he recently toured the airport alongside the Ministers of Interior and Finance to assess the needs of the Airport Security Apparatus.

“We will provide the airport with all the resources necessary to ensure its security,” Rasamny affirmed.

When asked whether these measures were taken as a precaution against a potential Israeli military escalation, Rasamny clarified that “these are essential security protocols that apply to all international airports, and Beirut’s airport is no exception.”
