Berri broaches developments with Egyptian FM, meets Iranian Deputy FM

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri welcomed at the second presidency headquarters in Ain El-Tineh, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty,  in the presence of Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Alaa Moussa, and Speaker Berri 's Advisor Ali Hamdan.

The meeting reportedly touched on  the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as the latest political and field developments in light of Israel’s continued occupation of parts of southern Lebanese territories and its violations of UN Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement. Talks also touched on the bilateral relations between Lebanon and the Arab Republic of Egypt.

After the meeting, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said “I am very pleased to visit this beloved and brotherly country based on the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi,“ describing the meeting with the Speaker as very cordial.  

Abdelatti added: “I conveyed to the Speaker the greetings and appreciation of the Egyptian leadership, and emphasized the heartfelt congratulations of Egypt, its government, people and leadership, to the Lebanese government, people and leadership, for fulfilling the presidential entitlement and electing President of the republic Joseph Aoun. We also congratulated on the designation of PM Nawaf Salam to form the new Lebanese government.“

Separately, Speaker Berri received at Ain El-Tineh, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary, and Expatriate Affairs, Vahid Jalalzadeh, accompanied by Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani.

Discussions reportedly focused on the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as and the bilateral relations between Lebanon and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
