Chairman of Parliament’s Finance and Budget Committee MP Ibrahim Kanaan met at the Parliament with French President’s Special Economic Envoy Jack de Lajugie, accompanied by French Embassy Economic Department Head Jean-Baptiste Cheval and a delegation from the embassy.
The meeting focused on reform-related issues, particularly financial legislation passed by Parliament, including banking secrecy and banking sector reform, as well as the draft law currently under review between the International Monetary Fund, the Finance Ministry and Banque du Liban, known as the “financial gap law.”
Kanaan thanked the French envoy for France’s and President Emmanuel Macron’s interest in and support for Lebanon. He stressed the importance of continued cooperation in the coming phase to reach a viable agreement with the IMF, as well as a framework that safeguards depositors’ rights and restores confidence in Lebanon.
