Defense Minister broaches situation with former president Sleiman, meets UNTSO Chief
Minister of National Defense, Major General Michel Menassa, received former President Michel Sleiman at his office in Yarzeh.
During the meeting, the pair reporetdly discussed the general situation in the country, particularly the security developments on the Lebanese border, and the role of the Lebanese Army in preserving internal stability and confronting all challenges.
Major General Menassa also received the Chief of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in Lebanon, Major General, Patrick Gauchat, accompanied by the accompanied by the Head of UNTSO’s Liaison Office Beirut, Lieutenant Colonel Dieter Bachmann.
The discussion touched on UNTSO’s current mission and its role in monitoring the armistice line.
The meeting also addressed the ongoing coordination between UNTSO and UNIFIL, and the need to extend UNIFIL's mandate next August.
On the other hand, the Minister of Defense received former MP Amal Abou Zeid and retired Brigadier General George Nader, where they discussed the general situation in the country.
