Geagea meets French Ambassador, stresses sovereignty and full ceasefire implementation

  • Wed February 26 2025 1:31 pm

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea met with French Ambassador to Lebanon Hervé Magro, in Maarab.

Discussions reportedly focused on the latest developments, particularly in light of the formation of the new government.

Geagea underscored the importance of building Lebanon’s future on solid and stable foundations, emphasizing that security and stability can only be ensured through the full restoration of state authority, sovereignty, and exclusive control over Lebanese territory.

This, Geagea stressed, includes sole possession of arms, decision-making on matters of war and peace, and full control over borders and crossings.

Moreover, Geagea asserted that the priority must be the implementation of the ceasefire agreement adopted by the previous government “without ambiguity or evasion.”

The LF chief then stressed that only when the Lebanese state fully assumes its responsibilities and demonstrates seriousness in implementing all international resolutions—particularly UNSCR 1701, 1559, and 1680 —will the international community support Lebanon in securing Israel’s withdrawal from all remaining occupied points.

“Without this, Lebanon will remain trapped in the same vicious cycle, subjected to more futile rhetoric about ‘resistance and defiance,’ which has only led to the country’s destruction. Moreover, Lebanon risks losing the world’s confidence in its ability to recover, despite the momentum created by the presidential inaugural address, the ministerial statement, and the government's efforts in domestic reforms and reconstruction,” Geagea concluded.
