Naqoura Mayor Abbas Awada revealed that the town has been “almost completely destroyed” and urged residents to delay their return until field inspections confirm it is safe, citing concerns over unexploded ordnance.
In a statement, the municipality announced that the Lebanese Army has commenced deployment within the town. It emphasized that to facilitate the passage of military vehicles and engineering teams, residents will be informed of the timing and plan for their safe return once substantial progress has been made.
The municipality underscored that safe return will only occur under the supervision of the army and Civil Defense teams, following thorough assessments to eliminate potential hazards. It also warned against unauthorized return attempts, which could lead to unpredictable consequences.
