MP Bilal Abdallah stressed that the Democratic Gathering bloc is pushing towards breaking the sharp vertical alignments in the parliament, for what is required is a consensus president who reassures the concerns of the Lebanese parties, in addition to resuming the reform and reconstruction operation and opening Lebanon to the Arab depth, and hence comes the Democratic Gathering's support for Army Chief, General Joseph Aoun.
In response to a question about the fate of the electoral session, Abdallah said in an interview: I do not know if it will yield a president and I do not want to get ahead of things, but signals have arrived from various parties indicating that if a certain option is predominant, there may be efforts to postpone or cancel the session.
At the same time, he stressed that the bloc will not disrupt the quorum and its choices will not deviate from the principle of consensus because that governs Lebanon.
Commenting on the foreign efforts and the momentum of delegates to Beirut on the eve of the session, Abdallah said: The outside world is helping Lebanon, but the reliance remains on internal awareness, which requires all blocs to carry out their duties at the minimum level.
