MP Sethrida Geagea received Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani in Maarab for talks with local officials and mayors from the Bsharri district on agricultural priorities, particularly the upcoming apple harvest.
Discussions focused on marketing the anticipated production, expected to reach around one million boxes, and on opening new export markets, especially in Arab countries including Egypt and Iraq. Participants highlighted the importance of agriculture as a key pillar of the local economy alongside tourism.
Geagea stressed the need for greater state support for farmers, particularly in mountainous regions, and called for closer cooperation between the Agriculture Ministry, municipalities and relevant stakeholders to expand export opportunities for Lebanese produce.
Hani reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting farmers and coordinating with concerned parties to facilitate the marketing of agricultural products and strengthen the sustainability of the sector.
The meeting concluded with a call for continued coordination and practical measures to support farmers, reinforce their resilience and preserve agriculture as a cornerstone of economic stability in the Bsharri district.
